COMELEC creates Stakeholders’ Committee for the 2013 Automated Elections

The Commission on Elections announced the creation of a Committee that is “principally tasked to conduct a continuous dialogue with the Commission’s stakeholders regarding their concerns, suggestions and recommendations in relation to automated elections and to sit down with them, if necessary, in order to thresh out the issues that they may possibly raise.”

The ‘Committee on Automated Elections for Stakeholders’ will be headed by Dir. Sonia P. Tiongson, Director III of the Education and Information Department. Members of the Committee include Atty. Pamela Joy Herrera (Office of the Chairman); Atty. Efraim Bag-id (Law Department); Ms. Charina Co (Administrative Services Department) and Mr. Manuel Odilon Fortes (Information Technology Department).

The Committee was the result of an open dialogue on June 27, 2012 between the COMELEC led by Chairman Sixto S. Brillantes Jr. and various election stakeholders. During the said dialogue, the COMELEC Chairman informed the stakeholders that it will create a Committee “that will address their concerns, suggestions and recommendations related to the 2013 Automated National, Local and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Elections.”

According to COMELEC Resolution No. 9512, promulgated July 31, 2012, the Committee is authorized to undertake to settle questions within the Committee level or to report questions and suggestions raised, if needed, to the Chairman of this Commission or to the Commission En Banc. ###
